A good place to start is the International Wood Collectors Society (www.woodcollectors.org) as they have many links to describing wood. As far as what wood is good for pen making goes, all wood is good for pen making but it often depends on how much effort you want to put into it. Some may require stabilization, some real fine cuts and nerves of steel, and some you just need to get lucky with. Each species and variation of wood has its own quirks and to me that is half the excitement of turning. Good luck and have fun. Bob I.
