I'm not sure if this goes in this part of the forum or not?

Can you have a pen laser engraved before after you apply the finish to your pen? IE... CA, Lacquer and etc... Or should you get the barrels engrave first and then apply the finish?

I took some pens to my engraver and noticed a tiny ding in the finish so I told him to engrave over it. He forgot and I had to refinish the upper barrel after it was engraved. It was not fun, very time consuming in comparison.

In my expereice (At least with Kallenshaan) he asks that the pen be finish prior to engraving. In past conversation he mentioned that the engraving process often throughs a small amount of contaminant onto the pen barrels. If finished, it wipes right off of the blank. If not, it might set into the grain of the wood.
