Just out of curiosity how do you decide what finish for your metalwork? Is there one that sells better then another? Do you pick a lighter color (chrome) for dark woods and vice versa? Or is it what you have on hand? I know that there are different quality platings but is there a go to color?
Thanks
Russ

Take the pen blank all finished and polished and the 3 different kit plating choices and lay them out in front of the wife. That's how "I decide":)

Seems like Kirk had the safest answer. But seriously sometimes the best way to go is to turn the pen close to size, do a little sanding. From there we will wipe the blank clean with a little denatured alcohol and while it is still wet hold up a couple different platings to the blank. Most finishes will darken the blank which is why we use the DA. You also have a tone difference in the 10k vs. the Ti gold and many times the yellow in many woods will look funny with the golds. Rhodium and black Ti seem to fit more easily with these types of woods. A good example would be the BOW.

Oh and ignore Lou as he seems to have the market on the color blind customers!

It really doesn't matter as long as the plating quality is good, the turning is good, and the finish is good. If you have those three things, the pen will sell.
