Keeping pairs together for engraving

I have 10 pens that will be engraved on the lower barrel. If I'm only sending the lower barrel to the engraver, is it OK to put a piece of masking tape and a number so I can match up the pairs after the engraving is done?

That shouldn't cause a problem, but I would ask your particular engraver. He/she may have a preferred method.

You could always use magic markers on the inside of the tubes after you have finished them. I use this method quite a bit and it works well and doens't interfer with pressing or gluing the parts in..

Mark a piece of paper and insert in the tube, when returned pull the paper out and there's your info. This is what I was told when I had it done.

How are you marking the blanks so the orientation of the engraving is correct or doesn't it make any difference??

Actually none of it matters. I talked with the engraver today and he wants the pens fully assembled.
