I've turned a few pens and now making my first attempt at a really nice pen. I'm making it for a friend who is really into writing. Jr Gent Rhodium FP with an acrylic blank from Exotic Blanks.

My question is this. Can anyone tell me the length of the larger barrel. I was sanding and think I might have taken too much off one end.:frown: Right now it's 1.893". Also, if I'm too short, how much margin of error is there?

I'd rather know now if I should start over, or if it's going to be OK.

Thanks!

Hi Rick. My barrels measure out to: Fat(cap) 1-7/8", Slim(body) 2-1/16".

My thought is that you should be ok being that it is a fountain pen. If it were a RB it would make more diff because of the cartridge.

You will be fine using the fountain pen nib. I have blanks chip out on the ends and sanded them down several times and have made the upper cap barrel as short as 1.75 and the nib did not interfere with the finial.

When you assemble the pen, press the centerband to the cap first, then you can actually thread the lower body into the cap and see how far the nib comes up.
