I see those bushings that just got uploaded!!

You planning to supply those ?? They look great! It looks like you are turning them between centers on the metal lathe, right?? I wanted to do that myself, but will the stock have enough grip while held between centers to let the metal lathe cut the stock??

Hi,Lee.Guess it's safe to come out?[)][:p]
Hey,THX for the kind words.
Here is my original post from back in March.http://www.penturners.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=22595
I really thought about supplying these, they work
darn well.I have been well pleased with the results,
I was about to throw in the towel from out-of-round
issues last year.Really disgusted.
If you could ask the guys that work for me at my paying job,
I'm over the edge on things being just so,or it's a no-go.[}:)]
Then the thought occured:well,DUH..
I'm a machinist..get 'er done.The import bushings,ALL OF THEM,
in my opinion(remember what I do for a living here)are
pure d'garbage~.
It was a fun project, and yeah,I have a few extra sets.
If somebody is interested, post and I'll do a classified.
There won't be close to enough for everyone, and they aren't
inexpensive.
Only thing is,I can't get the machine time whenever; it has
to be when a lull occurs, and that is not real often.
So I could do some, but it could be like waiting for a PH vise.
In todays world, most people want it NOW.I'm guilty of that, too.
So,I hated to advertise and make folks wait weeks or even months.
I dunno,just my thoughts.
Go easy on me,now..I'm just a little fella.[;)]

Dang John... How did I miss that post!

I say go for it, if you can make a batch here and there put them up for sale that time. I don't mind making a couple sets here or there to help out, but I do not have the time to sit down and make them in large amounts. That and the fact that I am using equipment that was built before WWII! LOL

So.... Are you going to give me a hint on how you made them with the 60 degree center on both ends? I have to assume that you did them between centers, right? Please?? [:D]

Lee,you probably were just busy doing one of those
fantastic rebuild jobs[;)]
I may get brave and do a small classified tomorrow;
I'm bailing out of work for a days vacation.BaaadBoy.[B)]
As far as the making of these wee beasties.....
I am a 95% hardcore mill guy,we have 6 cnc mills,
1 cnc lathe.I can run the lathe, but I can slip in the mills,
usually un-noticed(wink).2 mill setups, large diameter cuts first.
It is done by "circle milling",a way to mill a true cicle.
first operation in a 5C collet closer.
I batch similar stock sizes for this first operation.
Then,second operation,in another mill,using a v-vise,and do the same thing to the smaller diameter.[:p]
The mills have the advantage over our lathe because they have
a tool magazine and automatic tool changer,so load up tools,
program and let it go while you do something else.
Hope this explains, but if not,I'll go into more detail.
The extra 60 deg center is actually so I can check them for
runout, between centers. No bad bushings are allowed to live,
and there have been a couple.

Hmmm... Heck, I might buy yours!! LOL

It's nice to have the tools to do stuff. My little lathe is very limited, but can turn out a couple fairly decent things. But compared to a full CNC, why that's like comparing a pen turned on a Oneway with one whittled with a jack knife! [:D]
