After much thought and debate I have decided that right now I would prefer to turn with a mandrel instead of between center. I just feel that I would prefer seeing both blanks to size with each other. I know I will need a mandrel a and b I assume. What about a chuck? What do I need to buy other than a 60° live center to hold the mandrel? Sorry about the dumb question. Just trying to make sure I order everything I need all at 1 time so I can start turning right away. What is a good place to buy the mandrel, live center and chuck (if needed)?

Going to place the order for my lathe on Friday. I am as gitty as my kids on Christmas morning.

No chuck needed. The mandrel seats in the taper of the headstock. BTW- Woodcraft has the Rikon mini lathe on sale. This is the same lathe that got best buy from a WWing publication (can't remember the name) about getting into turning for under $600.

For the mandrel, here's a good basic one: http://tinyurl.com/2suamu

Go here for the live center: http://tinyurl.com/2dcmfg

Later you can upgrade to a Beall chuck or ........ If you don't have 2 jobs, now would be a good time to send out résumes[}:)][;)]

Can't get another job. Being how I will have put in 84 hours this week. Love pulling extra shifts when someone needs off. 12 hour shift work does tend to wear on you. I will get off Thursday morning at 4:20 am after 6 nights (2 are extra) and return Friday morning at 4:30 am. [|)][|)]
