Good Morning. I am looking for some information. My dad has just got a Jet Mode WL 1000 lathe from a old friend of his that passed away. I am not sure how old it is but it seems to work great. I am trying to find some information about it on the web but I am not having much luck. It seems to have a ¾ screw in head stock so I guess he will need a screw on mandrel. Any ideas?

Try emailing Jet Customer Support at jet@wmhtoolgroup.com to get a coppy of the manual.

If it's 3/4" it's probably 16 threads per inch. Is it solid or hollow?

If it's solid I don't know of any way other than a chuck to hold the mandrel. If it's hollow then it probably has a #1 Morse taper swallow. In that case you can use the Taig collet set with the 1/4" collet from Little Machine Shop. I use one on a Carbatec and it works better than a #1MT mandrel.

PSI offers a MANDREL THAT WILL SCREW ON TO A 3/4" X 16 THREADED SPINDLE.

If your lathe has a #1 MT or a #2 MT they also have an adjustable length mandrel. An adjustable length mandrel is less expensive than any of the chucks and IMHO produces better results than the "fixed length" mandrels.
