I'm curious about other pen turners that file Schedule C (Profit and Loss from Business - Sole Proprietorship) -

what are you writing in blank "A" (Principal business or profession, including product or service)

and what code are you using in "B"

Because I have several different on-line businesses in addition to my pen business, and my wife is also self employed I have, for several years, listed our principal business as "Multitasker" and left the number blank.

I will be using code 711510 (Independent artists, writers, & performers) when I file my Schedule C for the first time next spring. My wife, who is a decorative painter, has been using this code for years. For a description, I plan to use:

"Hand-craft and sell pens and other wooden art objects to the public."

Don't lose any sleep

In your IRS publications they have a list of codes, and if you don't have the pub with the codes you can find it on line. But, don't fret about it. The IRS doesn't get upset about the code as long as you pay the right tax.
