I'm about to order some aluminum sheeting for doing inlays from Whimsie. I also wanted to order some Jeweller's Bronze for same purpose.

And suggestions as to how well it will sand out? Any problem with compromising (for want of a better word) the surface of the wood when turning or sanding?

Also should 30 guage be ok for the inlays.

I'm a novice with this. I have used aluminum cans for this, but would like to try some varying thicknesses.

Any help is much appreciated.

I've used aluminum with good results. I use a woodchuck carbide turning tool, and the aluminum turns very easily, and comes off like aluminum foil. I think the different thickness shouldn't be a problem for you. Be sure not to use a brad point bit through the aluminum. You probably know that already though. I've used different thicknesses with no noticeable differences when turning. I've never used the bronze though. But I'd think it would be similar to the aluminum as long as you have sharp tools.
