PSI has a blank listed "Acrylester Blue Green Ocean" and I was wondering if that is the same as the "Inlace Acrylester Ocean Mist" pen blank. Looking at the two blanks it sure looks like they are the same but I thought I would see what other people think.

A lady, I know, wants a gold Zen pen made with this blank and of course she wants it next week so ordering it from PSI is out for me. They take too long to ship orders out for me. I placed and order on Monday and it still has not shipped. Not a big deal when I am not in a rush.

Thanks.

I'd pick the closese one at Woodturningz and use that. If you can't tell the difference, show sure won't be able to. Every blank is a little different anyway.

I just got off the phone with my fiancéand she talked to the lady who wants the pen and she said that she can wait a week or two for it. So, I am not in a extreme hurry to get it done now.

I am still trying to figure out if the two blanks are the same however.

On a side note is there anyone else beside Craft Supplies that sells the Zen kit? I am just wondering about that.

I don't believe these are the same blank -- I have used both and they finished out with a different look. Ocean Mist from Woodturningz is very translucent and has yellow and white "streamers" floating through a blue background. I painted the blank's hole and the tube white so the blue actually looked aqua in color. The PSI blank I made didn't have any yellow in it, just green and a bit of white mixed into the blue. Also very translucent and a deeper blue. My wife didn't like it as much as the Woodturningz.

I am not being picky the customer is.

Darn, I was hoping the blanks were the same. Maybe I will pick up one of each and see how they come out.

Thanks. I did not see it listed on Exotics when I looked before. They do not have it in gold though.

Paul

It is only offered in 10kt gold, not tigold.

I try not to carry 10kt. (This is not cast in stone, but generally, we try to avoid 10kt--leaves much room for improvement in durability, IME!!):confused:

So how far is the Rockler store in Denver from your house, 8... perhaps 10 miles? That would be my route if I was in a hurry, nothing beats hopping over to the local store picking out a few blanks then driving home and having a blank on the lathe in an hour or so!

Paul,

Where are you located? I have several gold Zen kits (magnetic cap) and could pop one in the mail to you. PM me with your address and I can send it out tomorrow at cost. If you need more than one, let me know and I'll check my stock. I think I have several. Gold and Chrome.

Regards,

Martin

Rockler is only about 10 miles away from me. I am going to stop by there tomorrow and take a look at the blank.

Martin,

Thank you for the offer but I have a few other items I need to get from Craft Supplies. Like some yo-yo and top kits. I was going to wait to get them but I might as well get them now.

Ed,
I would love to see that kit in TiGold.

To reply to the original question, They are the same. For the post that said one had no yellow, I have gotten some from both with little to no yellow. That said Wood Turningz is fast on shipping.

I stopped by Rockler on the way home from work and took a look at the Ocean Mist blank and it had way too much blue in it. On the other hand I did find a stabilized blank in teal which is the color that I am looking for. I think it is big leaf maple. Hopefully it will look as nice as the box elder ones that I have done.

Thanks everyone.
