I over turned an FT American Flat Top at the finial for some unknown stupid reason. What was I thinking? It's done in toasted birds-eye maple, and I'd like to return the cap. I can't see a way that the cap can come apart without ruining the tranny.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Hi Colin; I am quite aware of the transfer punch set having one as well as having to use it a few times.

Which direction do you think I should remove the tranny from? Towards the finial or towards the nib end.

Hi again Colin; With all due respect, the only way the tranny can come out of the Flat Top American as I see it is through the finial end. This would mean using the transfer punch on the threads of the twist mechanism which doesn't seem like a great idea to me. I'm sure the threads would be damaged.

I'm coming to the conclusion that it can't be taken apart without ruining the tranny.

Anyone else have any ideas or can you confirm my conclusion.
