Hierarchy of Plating's

[Wheaties]

Is there a archived sheet in the library somewhere that shows the hierarchy of the most durable platings? I can't find anything anywhere. I know most of them for the most part and how they stack up, but there is a few in the middle that I'm not sure of. Being new I can get mixed up, and a reference sheet would be nice. Is there a have-all, end-all sheet that explains this?

Sounds good to me, Mike! That's why I use mostly chrome - I can't afford the heavy-duty platings but want something that will last!

I think that's true, but I will say that I regularly use some of my first pens that were made with 24k kits and they are holding up fine (8 or so months old). That's not bad for a cheap kit.

Nickel is 7.0
Rhodium is 5.5
Chrome is 5.5
Platinum is 4.3
.999 Silver is 3.25
A US penny is 3.0
24k Gold is 2.75
A fingernail is 2.5

Chrome has been a quite durable plating for many years, however recent posts indicate some issues with pealing on chromed pen parts. The MOHS scale does not tell the entire story for some platings. If only they plated pen parts like old Cadillac bumpers...
