Help IDing this Wood

A customer came back from Kansas with some ironwood and this wood. It is a dense wood slight smell but I dont know if its iron wood or what can anyone help?

My quess is Ironwood sap wood. I have some that is very near the same as this, and yes it does smell

I would agree with the open grain issue. The osage that I've turned is very dense and the grain lines are much more distinct. Ironwood sapwood would be a good guess or maybe mullberry? I've turned some mulberry before that had that golden hue to it. Good looking pens none the less!!!

Keep turning em!
