Just got a box of curly koa from a buddy stationed overseas....
all 1" square... here is a pic of three I picked at random from the box... fresh off the saw, not sanded just a little BLO to see the grain...
The rest looks just as nice...
And all it is costing me is a Pen and Pencil set made from 2 of them...

Only got 10 pieces now... but he said he is going to see what he can get... said he has access to some nice Hawaiann woods now that he knows what to look for...
Got these from the scrap bin of a cabinet maker... I told him what to look for..
He is PO1 in a maintenance division... said the CPO was wondering why the hell he was cutting scrap wood into little pieces... LOL... I figure the next lot will cost me a pen for the Chief...

Beautiful wood, Tom. The way I calculate, though, you're paying about $8-10 a blank (your pens command that price as I recall).
