Has anyone tried to do anything with barberry root?

Last year I dug up some barberry bushes, and I found that the roots were big burly and yellow.

I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried to make blanks out of them? sorta like briar roots.


I may dig up some more and dry them out to give it a try.

I removed some and found they dried so fast they split, I tried to turn one and it smelled so awful I don't want to smell that ever again. The piece was an incredible yellow which would have been interesting as accent pieces in a pen.

doing some quick research, barberry and agarita (found in Texas) are similar

MesquiteMan has used agarita in his Texas Hybird blanks - here's a long click I made from it:
