Ok, so once in a while you get lucky. I have been thinking about the pen vice for a while, but decided it was not a priority for the cost. Today on Craigslist I found this one. $10. It is missing the piece that covers the gears, but is all aluminum. Now to go back and find the modification instructions I found in the library on modifying it for a removable insert to protect the drill bit from hitting the aluminum. I might just make a removable plug out of corian to insert in a lipped cavity I can mill in the aluminum

Nice find not seen one like that before. I drilled and tapped 2X3/8 holes so that I can bolt my pen drilling jig onto my drill press to keep it central.
