Got the blues...

As mentioned in another thread, I had two Jr Gents caps blow out while turning. I also had an El Grande cap crack while pressing the fittings because I let the thing kink while pressing it in, and a spur of sharp metal was apparently sticking up from my clamp while pressing taking a gouge out of the barrel. So 4 pens, 4 failures. After that I went inside and had a beverage, done for the day.

Here's the gouge. Luckily I can duplicate that blank pretty easily. Or not use it at all, since I haven't turned the cap yet.

And this is the one I don't know if I can duplicate. I've got 3 attempts curing right now. The second photo shows more of how the white macropearl spreads through the blue, looking like flames. I overexposed with a point light source. Don't mind the dust...

I REALLY like that 'flame micropearl' effect! Kepp working on it until you get it down. It looks like it will be worth it.

couldn't you just recast the same blank in clear resin? It should disguise the hole.

I was able to duplicate the blue and white blank. Yay!

Thats a sweet looking pen. The castings came out fantastic. They really pop. What did you use to cast it PR or Alumilite?

That's PR. Because of the fast setup of Alumilite, I won't be playing with it again until I have a pressure pot.
