I have turned one or two PR pens fusing the square molds and that works o.k/
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for round molds that would require less shaping. Also should the cut produce castings that are like sand?

Here is a link that tells how to make a conduit mold:

There is a better mold plan that uses copper tubing but I was not able to find that page.

Were you referring to the mold plans called "The Perfect Mold" which used copper tubing?

If it was the picture and plans of sort are at this link:

This is what the trays look like if you're interested:

I didn't like the length of the tubes (not quite long enough for one whole pen) so I cut the bottoms of the tray off on my band saw so they are now the length of one blank. The top still fit after I cut it off.

I just mark the length of half a blank on my ice trays with a sharpie and pour away. After a few dozen you get a feel for the right amount...lol Very little waste this way!

I wonder if you couldn't stack two of them together (or cut the one tray in half and stack the halves) to make longer blanks.

Jim,

Why dont you just use PVC pipe if you want longer molds thats what I do. You can by a cople foot piece of pipe for a couple bucks put a cap on one end and off you go.
