Hey,

Quick question. What is the difference between all the platings of gold? I know ti gold is more durable, but how about: 10k, 14k, 18k, 22k, and 24k?

Generally, the higher the number, the softer the plating, the faster it will wear, but in the standard gold platings, it's the difference in wearing off in a week and wearing off in a week and a day.... The K rating is how much pure gold is in the mix, with the higher the number being a higher percentage of gold. The lower numbers have larger amounts of less expensive, but more durable metals mixed in. It slightly changes the color of the gold, but makes it more durable/stronger than the pure, soft gold...

Titanium gold is not gold at all, and will be MUCH more durable than any "K" rated gold plating...

The lower the k the more durable the finish but few pens are plated in anything but 24kt because it is easier to plate than the lower k values....but...24k gold plating on pen kits is nearly always coated with a clear coat of epoxy which greatly enhances its durability. Lower k gold is usually solid rather than plated Gold wedding rings are usually solid 10k gold and wear very well and no one would recommend 24k gold for that application either solid or plate.
