I like the medium--it has a bit of gap-filling ability, and dries fairly quickly, making it relatively easy to use. I wouldn't recommend activator, because 1) you don't need it, the glue will dry in less than a minute, and 2) it tends to slightly weaken the glued joint.

I have just switched to the thick because it gives me a few more precious seconds to get the tube set properly in the blank. I don't use activator when I glue in the tubes.
I prefer the thick same as above.. longer working time. I don't worry about the set up time.. rarely glue up and turn same day.. I usually will set up a bunch and let sit overnight and turn later.
