After a busy spring and super hot summer where my garage was unbearable I'm finally getting time to get back out to turn some. Any tips on things to look out for when I get back into the shop?

Tools won't get dull just sitting around, but I hone everything before I turn anyways. Should I lube/grease the belt on the lathe? (I've got a Turncrafter Pro)

Thanks in advance.

Inspect your lathe, drill press and grinder closley. Clean up the ways on the lathe and hit them with come 0000 steel wool followed by some hard carnuba wax. That'll help pick up any rust that accumulated and help you position the banjo.

Hone the gouges real good. You are wrong, they do get dull when ju8st sitting around. A fine film of oxidation builds up on the edges.

Now go turn and enjoy.

I would say to follow the manufacturers recommended maintenance procedures for your specific tools. And then start slowly with easier projects until you get back into the "feel" of things.
