get out the finial?

Dumb question -- are the finials on kit caps just glued on? If I want to do a custom button finial, do I just wriggle a blade underneath the finial on the cap and pry it out? Is there a trick? I've been hesitant in case I bugger up the cap in the process.

They are only pressed in,you can knock them out with a small punch first drill a hole into some scrap wood and the same hole into a piece of rubber, l found a thick rubber washer, the rubber protects the plating now the hole needs too be small enough to hold the main body of the final back, and big enough too let you knock out the small final end l did have a how too pdf here which is showing photos and drill size
