Flowering Plum

My friend gave me a piece of Flowering Plum harvested from a neighbor across the street from him.

The picture isn't the greatest, but the wood was really nice. I had two pieces that would make nice pens, but 10 seconds after the little voice asked "should I have sanded the corners off the blank before I began turning" it snapped a piece off that ended up making it not salvageable.

I gave him the pen, and he was as happy as I was giving it to him.

Beautiful pen. I have never seen that combination of colors before.

Sorry about the second blank. Maybe you can make a keychain or something small with it.

The contrast is awesome! I've never heard of flowering plum. I've turned American Plum but never seen any contrast like that before.
