First Baron Fountain Pen

I was assembling my first Baron Fountain Pen and discovered that the spring that fits inside the end cap was missing.Since this is my first fountain pen, I was very carefull taking the parts out, so I'm sure I didn't drop it on the floor. My question is: do you have to have this spring? It seams to have no purpose when using an ink cartridge. Is it for the ink pump?

You don't need a spring. It is only used in the rollerball kit. All it would do is rattle around when you wrote with it.

In fact, the spring doesn't come with the fountain pen version! []
