Has anyone ever used clear finger nail polish to finish wood?

Yesterday, I sanded a piece of stabilized maple to 2000 grit. I applied three coats of clear finger nail polish to the spinning wood letting the polish dry between coats. The polish dries in a few seconds. I sanded the polish lightly, with 2000 grit, then applied Hut Plastic Polish.

The result was the nicest shiny, gloss finish I have ever been able to get. I don't know about durability, but the nail polish appears to be relatively hard.

It isn't even lacquer, most of it is overpriced enamel. A friend of mine is a Revlon chemist. If you remember Testor's model paint, the formulation, other than color, was identical before the companies started adding other things that are supposed to make the nails healthier. For a while, the bulk mix, precolor, was made on the same production line by duPont. If you want the same finish for less, buy the clear Testor's. It is cheaper, and is available in larger bottles.
