epoxy question

I got me some Mercury medium set 15 minute epoxy. I have had this stuff sitting in an unheated shop since I got it a few months ago. I opened it today and my first observation is how thick this stuff is. I am used to the hardware store runny stuff.

I measured it out by eye and I added a drop of paint to tint it. I mixed well and it was very gummy. I used it to put some tubes in so we will see what happens in a few minutes but I am wondering if my tinting it with acrylic paint was what caused the gum up or if this is normal.

Oh yeah, I did not mix it in the unheated shop it was in my shop office which might be around 50 degrees.

Mine is always thick also, and when tinting it I leave it over night, as I have had some spin on me even after 1 or 2 hours.

Low temps will make thicker, why not place the containers in a warm water bath before mixing. The consistancy will be more like you are used to.

Thanks. I am going to leave them over night and turn them tomorrow if it is not to cold.

I store my Epoxy in the house where normal temps are. Bring to shop, then back to house when done. Carl
