i have read that end grain turning is real tough.... it is. but i had to try. i got this osage orange when i spent a week in kansas. i have it green to(yellow). i love this wood. got this piece real dry. i've made bottle stoppers out if it. the rings are the best part of it. there are some cracks in the wood but they are from drying in a wood pyle.

Nice job. End grain can be challenging, but well worth the effort. The pen below was made from cross-cut black palm by Richard Kleinhenz.

I don't try to stabilize wood myself. I send my blanks to Bill Baumbeck of Arizona Silhouette for stabilizing. He has so much stabilized that it is pretty economical to add ours to his regular orders. I have had quite a bit done this way, and I have not been disappointed yet.
