I noticed today that the Electra kit I am working on is a full half inch shorter than the zen. Pictured below is a Zen that I had already made and the parts to the Electra. The brass tube is 1/2" shorter. However, the cap is the same length. Which means there is no extra room in the Electra cap beyond the tip.
Basically I was looking at this to see how short a pen could be made using a rollerball refill. A refill is 4-3/8" and the Electra finished is about 4-3/4" as opposed to the Zen which is 5-1/4" finished. Leaving room enough for the spring and the cap end thickness, I doubt it could be any shorter than what the Electra is.
