Can you tell us why the blanks look different in your pics? Is one wet wand the other dry?

India Ink method?

You have us guessing here.

I am using the steel wool method and that got me to the second picture, then i used a tannin powder that mixea with water, let that dry and redid the steel wool dip, to get the first picture. It was still a lil wet when i took the picture.
I hope i can get a finish on it tomarrow, any suggestions, all i really have avaible is danish oil, ca, and a waterloc product that we used one the counter.

Mate, I can see what went wrong and I can tell you that, you can do a lot better than that, I know...!

The steel wool removed the colour and that was expected as you didn't seal the wood after you put the colour.

I have made a thread not that long ago where, I have "ebonized" a piece of one of the last woods I gather, the #81 Eucalyptus Dura.

I decided to show how easy and identical this wood look to the pure black ebony, I used a black permanent ink marker, dry it by rubbing friction (burnishing) and then, applied CA. If the wood was rougher, I would give it a thin coat of CA after the colour, sand it with a fine grit and apply more CA coats.

Sand that Oak, as fine as you can before you use the black marker, you will find that, but burnishing the ink from the marker, the wood will polish itself and you will need no sanding before you apply the CA.

Have a look here...!

Cheers
George

finished product, i call it a success, tho when i do it again i will do a few things different. One after turning to size, i will wet the blank good and sand it back to size a few times to keep the grain from popping so much during the ebonizing process. second i will use a different finish to keep some of the grain.

Yes ... SUCCESS indeed !! I think you did that very well and you have inspired me to put that ebonizing process on my to-do list.
