I read a post that someone had bought a blue dyed piece of wood, and when he turned it down to fit the pen it wasn't so blue so he used blue food coloring to redye it. Has anybody tried this before and had it hold up to being used a lot?

Trans tint or analine dyes hold up to fading better than food coloring -- but food colorings including unsweetened Koolaid work.

These are done with McCormicks food coloring from the grocery store. They'll last if you put a CA finish on like these.........

This pen won the Most Beautiful Pen contest in the 2010 Birthday Bash.

It's Curly Maple dyed with LV's Peacock Blue aniline dye, mixed with Isopropol Alcohol 99% pure. The pen was turned to size first and then dyed. Grain raising of the wood is abated when the dye is mixed with alcohol.

After the first coat was dry, I sanded it down slightly, then added another coat of dye.
