I have some burl blanks that I assume are not dry since they are coated with wax(?). What do I do short of waiting a year or two to turn them?

Gary,
Are they 100% coated with wax . If it's just the ends , it's probably just to prevent them from splitting . I know that I've turned bowl blanks that have been waxed on the ends and had no problems.

Gary ,
One method of checking them might be to drill a hole in one and check out the moisture content from the remians of the drilling and proceed from there .

Gary it depends on when they were diped. Eventhough they have been dipped in wax they will still dry, just much slower. Scrape some of the wax off and check it out.
