Greetings....I've always been curious as to what speed most drill wood blanks on a drill press. I drill about 800rpm's on my press, 500 when using the lathe. I rarely change speeds on my DP because of the need to swap pulleys. How about you?

I leave my drill press set on its slowest setting, about 250 rpm. I could drill faster with smaller bits but this way I don't have to change speeds for the big bits. It may take a bit longer but I'm not doing this in production mode so time isn't a factor.

AS slow as it'll go. Regardless of which machine I'm using.

I can dial my lathe down to 1rpm. Not too sure how well that would work...or how long it would be before the motor cooks itself.

My lathe is a 3 phase motor run on household current with a VFD. On the "high speed" pulley (3000rpm) I set the VFD to 10-13% of full (60Hz) power. Dunno what speed that comes out to be. 300rpm?
