I've seen several references to drilling blanks using the lathe. What is the setup for doing this? I'll be away from my drill press for several months, and am looking for an alternative method for drilling blanks.

This is what I use. Really all you need is a Jacobs chuck for your tailstock, and another Scroll type chuck to hold the stock. I use a Supernova chuck. There are several different jaws available. The ones in the picture are their smallest dowel or pin style jaws and work very well at holding stock tightly, and also pretty much self centering.

I can't afford a scroll chuck so I add an extra step.
This works well on weirdo antler.
Turn round between centers to the dia of a beall collet and drill it in a collet chuck.
Doin it right now for an order.I won't post any of them for fear they will offend someONE.
