Newbie question, thanks for taking the time to look...

What is you experience turning Clear Vertical Grain Douglas Fir? I was able to find some great info and even better looking pens made with Douglas Fir Burl but not much mention of the regular CVG. On first look, it's really soft.. I haven't stabilized wood yet, but looks like it could be a contender. But since it's so straight grained, would it be a great choice for a beginner? TIA

I have made pens, tops and wind stands from Doug Fir. The key is sharp tools, take your time, small cuts. I find it stands well.
