I thought I would share some pictures of some of my freshly sawed and sealed spalted Dogwood pen blanks. These blanks turned out excellent. I brought the wood home from work on friday. It will take them a while to dry but it will be worth the wait. The blanks are 1x1x5 1/2. I have one more log to work with.

Next log try cutting some cookies from the log and make some crosscut pieces. The spalting looks more dramatic like that. You might wind up with short blanks but if you bookmatch the cuts with two pieces you can get a good looking set.
When we cut our log we had carpenter ants come piling out of the hollow in the center while cutting the cookies, had to stand by with the bug spray while sawing.
