I have turned acrylic acetate blanks ok and now my Wife has chosen a blank from "Inlace Acrylester". Is there much difference in turning that and acrylic acetate?

Is PR and Acrylic acetate different also?

Thanks,

Ray

YES and Yes. Inlace will blow up if you look at it funny. It is MUCH more difficult to turn than Acetate. Check the Library for an article about all the different acrylics.

I find that with the acrylester, It's full of pockets and chips so easy... Turning with sharp tools on a slower speed can help you turn it a little easier. Either way, it's worth all the trouble!!

I've turned a lot of inlace acrylester and have never found any voids. It is more brittle, but is a very pretty material and it polishes well. Don't try to take too much material off in a pass, turn the lathe speed up. When you drill, back out the bit often, especially at the end of the blank.
