Is there a major difference between a Bethlehem Olive and its counter part Bethlehem Olive burl?

If so who carries the burl?

thanks Bill Daniels

Bethlehem Olive is the branch wood from the tree. Bethlehem Olive Burl is cut from burls the tree occasionally produces. The difference is the grain patterns. BOW is very spectacular in itself, but the grain of BOWB can be flat out incredible

The burl wood is available sporadically. Contact Nolan her on the forum. Jimmy at woodpenpro has it sometimes. Or order it directly and wait about 6 months for it to show up, if it's available.

Burls are growths almost like tumors on a tree. Just about any tree can grow them, but they are rare. Whenever you see some wood with the word burl in the name, it's the regular wood with a growth that was cut off of it like the one below. It's not a separate species or anything, it just refers to the growth/grain pattern.

Yes one of us is stranger than the other.

The answer to this depends on which of us you ask.

Either way there is never a straight answer!
