Destroyed my wife's creation

So my wife has from time to time been putting together a purple heart with cedar celtic knot. She had it all ready to go and rounded some. It just needed facing. While she was in the house yesterday getting things ready for my daughter & father's combined bday party, I was out in the shop. So I thought I would help her. I glued the tube in and then started to face it. The wood seemed harder than normal to me. I got the one side done then as I was doing the other the one side split down the side. I felt SO bad. She said it was ok but I still feel horrible.

It was a flaw in the wood. It would've split the same way when she did it, so you saved her the agony of destroying her own piece.
