I had a huge desert broom growing behind my storage shed. Couldn't cut it down until we moved the shed. Just out of curiosity, I turned a peice of it into a seam ripper handle.
Plain grain, light colored, turned easily and finished well. Very strong scent...resiny and pungent. (the leaves can be chewed to treat toothache!) Might be good for dying as it is very light colored.
It is a weed here in AZ.
Here are pictures of the plant. I'll post a picture of the handle this afternoon after I pick up my pistachio logs.
