I love a pen with a story. A friend had to tear down a barn and saved a piece of wood and has asked me to make a pen. I plan to make a a Euro pen/pencil set for her.

The board she gave me is 6"x8" and about an inch thick. That gives me some flexibility in how I cut it. It's clear white oak and isn't that interesting by itself.

I was thinking about cutting it at 45 degree angle to give the grain some interest. Any thoughts suggestions would be welcome.

One other thought I had was to put in a knot using the same wood, but with a different grain angle. for example cut it straight, but use end grain in the knot. (never tried this before, but I think it would work)

Thanks!!
