We really like the pens that have a spiral design to them that we have seen. Being curious we started reading up on how to make them and found that it is a process using a "mill". We have also seen the price of these, being a small company just starting we can not afford the 3000.00 machine that we have seen recommended. Okay so here is the questions: Is this the only way to make the spiral pens? 2. Can you use a mini mill? Any reccommendations?

There are actually tools out there you can hook onto your lathe to do spiraling etc. I will post a link to the Beal system which I have heard works quite well.

Check out the gallery for some of the things done with it.

There are also attachments that allow you to turn pens and do fluting and spiraling with an attachment your router rides in. I have not tried any of these.
