I was at a craft fair and they had for sale a bag of pen turning stuff. Mandrels, blanks, pens, pen cases , etc.
The pen kits have the transmission in the top part of the pen. The mandrels were of three diameter and it appears as if you turn one section of the pen and than insert the tube. The mandrels are the diameter of the tubes out side.
