While showing some pens this weekend I was asked what I made them out of.
I replied anything from exotic woods to antlere with plywood in between.
I added that Iwould like to try a corn cob pen.
The guy said he had some cobs drying in his shop for 3 years. He soaks them with kerosene and usees them to start his wood stove.
He came back a couple of hours later with a bag of cobs for me.
My wife is mailing him the first pen as I write this.
The instructions on the home page were excellent.
I added the CA finishing technique from the forum also.

I don't attempt to dry my own corn cobs from the sweet corn we eat (and grow... have 1.5 acres of the stuff)...It takes too long for the wet cobs to dry and they really attract flies and insects like crazy... Also the boiling softens the cobs real bad and leaves them spongy.. I tried to dry some in a warm oven and they just felt bad and soft..
If there are no dried feed corn husks at my neighbors farm.. I go the the pet store and buy the dried corn sold for feeding birds and squirrels and just scrape off the kernels...
