I figured out a neat trick with acrylic blanks (the standard 5" blanks).
My most popular pens, at the moment, are Patriot/Atlas pens and cigar pens.
I figured out that you can make 3 nice pens out of 2 blanks if you have a good bandsaw. 2 Atlas/Patriot/polaris and one cigar.
Buy two identical colored acrylic blanks (or even burls and such) that look similar in pattern that are 5" long.
Cut the Atlas blanks from each main blank, and the drop should be *just* big enough for a cigar pen. I have found that you can fudge the length of the Atlas blank a bit if needed since the tranny on that pen is a "insert until in correct position" type--- ie, adjustable.
Works like a charm.
