These are the waste offcuts from two short logs that I will keep in case I make Jewelry in the future,an equal amount of dross and quite a few blanks of pink Conkerberry and yellow Osage Orange that was harvested locally. The Conkerberry is from northern Queensland and only grows to about 10 feet tall over a very long time, usually twisted and full of bark inclusions.

This illustrates where a lot of our money goes in cutting waste may be because it is hard to predict where the problems are located inside the bark etc.

All part of the fun. Peter

When I first started woodworking it was making walking sticks and I kept seeing the possibilities in every tree branch. Now it's pen turning and WOW there's a pen blank in every piece of wood. I see many blanks in that pile of wood.
