Gerry got me thinking...when he mentioned Beall collet chuck.

1. What is the advantage of going this route vs regular mandrels?
2. When buying a collet chuck for pen making...what should I look for?
3. Is it really worth the extra $$$?

FYI, both my lathes are Jet with MT2 driver.

You will never experience the pleasure of a mandrel that runs absolutely true until you have held it in the collet chuck. If this doesn't have any meaning for you, then forget about the collet chuck.

Having the adjustable length and maintaining the same accuracy regardless of how much of the mandrel is inside the chuck is a plus.

Thank you guys!

Russ, now I am sorry I even asked [B)]. Looking at the price I really cannot afford it. Well, it will be another thing I have to look forward buying [:D].
