A customer ordered a Cocobolo rollerball. I had not done cocobolo before. I love the wood and thought I might try a closed-end pen. I will be using the nib, transmission and cartridge from a Woodturningz Orion kit. Are the clips normally attached to a closed end? If I wanted to do it, any suggestions?

There is also an old Russ Fairfield article online somewhere.

Basically you cut off and bend some is the clip ring. Then make and enlarge a little slot in the pen. I used a Dremel and the smallest bit I could find.

Depending on your tools and skill level, you couldalso drill and tap the cap and recess the clip or leave it showing. YOu can thread a piece of brass or aluminum drill it out and slip it on a tenon cut on the piece you use for the cap finial. You will have to have long enough piece for the finial that you can shape it to fit and have some for the tenon.
