Read the two closed end pen articles on my website. the articles tell how to hold the blank without using expensive mandrels. I even show a way to make homemade jam chucks and how to use your standard mandrel to make them. You don't need any thing but your 7mm mandrel. I make'em that way all of the time. Enjoy. The articles can be found at http://www.RedRiverPens.com/articles
Do a good turn daily!

I tried Don's jam chuck using the mandrel and it worked out nicely [8D] -- however, for as much as I thought I was paying attention, minding every p and q and dotting every I crossing all the T's, I ended up using the wrong drill bit and ruined a very nice Thuya burl [B)] (used the cap end darn-it) So then decided I had it down and used a very nice piece of Desert Iron Wood, but I drilled it on the lathe and it was a bit off center or the blank was a bit small...ruined that one too [B)] So now I've got Cocobolo on there and it's turning nicely...should be done later today :D Thanks Don for writing that, the picture was worth a thousand words!
