Clean bushings...

Hello everyone....been awhile since I've posted...

I need help...Wanted to turn a Cigar with Paduck. 1 set of bushings has a thick coat of poly dried onto them. I want to clean them up but was thinking that I had a choice either turn the poly off with a skew? (you haven't seen me work a skew)Or better yet...soak them in something to soften it up and then wipe it off? I do have another set of bushings. I think I should order a few more sets just in case. Is there another way to do this with out ruining what I have?? TIA Marc

A skew will work. As will a parting tool, a gouge, or most any turning tool. Even the 80-grit gouge will do the trick. Whatever you use, be sure to just remove the poly and not the metal []

I would probably do like mrcook says and turn it off. I use acetone for CA. Does it work for poly?????

Acetone will soften poly in 1-2 days but it will not dissolve it. I usually just sand over the poly on the bushings when I turn the next pen. Just be careful when you get close to the metal so you don't carry it onto the blank.

Acetone works. I keep a jar just for my bushings. [8D]

Thanks....I am gonna let them soak for a day or so....I'll let you know if it comes off. Marc
